Humanizing Hygiene is a 501C3 organization started as an inspiration and vision by Dr. Denise Smith Chisolm

As a compassionate physician observing the increased homelessness in her community, she was
compelled to make a difference. Our mission is to give dignity, respect, and  compassion as well as provide healthy hygiene opportunities to individuals and families who are homeless and living on the streets of South Los Angeles County.

Dr. Denise approached and spoke with countless unhoused persons and asked the poignant questions, “Where do you shower?”; repeatedly, the answer would be
“wherever I can.” Denise knew she had to be part of a solution, and Humanizing Hygiene was
born.
